Jacksonville Chiropractic FAQs

If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, you may have quite a few questions concerning chiropractic treatments. The following FAQs from Core Chiropractic serving Jacksonville, Julington Creek, and Mandarin explain more about chiropractors, chiropractic care, and who can benefit from natural, non-invasive chiropractic treatment.

ARE CHIROPRACTORS REALLY DOCTORS?

Chiropractors may not be medical doctors, but they are considered professionals in their field. Doctors of chiropractic (chiropractors) must complete a Bachelor’s in Health Science and Master’s in Clinical Chiropractic before they can practice their profession. In many states, they must also pass an exam to become licensed practitioners in their field.

WHAT CONDITIONS DO CHIROPRACTORS TREAT?

Chiropractors specialize in treating pain caused by musculoskeletal injuries such as soft tissue injuries, sprains and strains, subluxations, whiplash, and musculoskeletal misalignments. These injuries may cause headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, or leg pain. Your chiropractor in Jacksonville/Julington Creek/Mandarin also treats joint, ligament, or muscle pain caused by chronic disorders, sports injuries, auto accidents, and slip and falls.

WHAT IS A “CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT?”

Adjustments are techniques used by chiropractors to correct displaced vertebrae or joints that are causing pain and discomfort. Our chiropractor will apply a controlled force to the injured area to correct misalignments and restore balance to your system. Adjustments help reduce pain and improve range of motion and mobility.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

Chiropractic treatments are safe, non-invasive, and drug-free, eliminating the risk of addiction to prescription drugs. Each treatment is customized to suit our patients’ individual needs, making them more effective in treating your health condition.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE SAFE?

No healthcare treatment is 100 percent risk free. For the most part, however, chiropractic treatments are safe and effective when performed by an experienced, licensed chiropractor. You may feel a little sore or achy after a chiropractic session, similar to working out at the gym. This soreness, however, generally passes within a day, making it inconsequential when compared to the benefits of your treatment.

DO YOU NEED TO BE REFERRED BY A PHYSICIAN TO RECEIVE CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

No. You can choose to see a chiropractor on your own for treatment. However, many physicians do refer their patients to chiropractors for treatment of neck, back, or shoulder pain caused by musculoskeletal injuries.

CAN CHILDREN RECEIVE CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT?

Children can benefit from chiropractic treatment, especially for sports injuries. If your child is experiencing neck or back pain due to a sports injury, he or she may be a candidate for chiropractic treatment.
